Christians Against Poverty

Christians Agains Poverty (CAP) are passionate about releasing people from a life sentence of poverty, debt, unemployment and addiction. They work with the local church to bring good news, hope and freedom to people in the UK. They provide several different services including Debt Help, Job Clubs and Release Groups.

Here in Canterbury we're excited to be partnering with Canterbury Vineyard who are our local CAP Debt Centre. This means that as a church we have committed to becoming an Associate Church with our own Debt Coach, who will work with Becca Leeves at the Debt Centre to increase CAP's capacity to help people in Canterbury.

Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking

Stop-the-Traffik---Kent

It is estimated that over 45 million men, women and children are trapped in modern slavery. That is more slaves than at any other point in human history. As a church we feel called to play our part in fighting the growing injustice of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking in the world today.

Locally, we do this by being the resource centre for Stop the Traffik Kent. This group is part of a global network of Stop the Traffik community groups, all focused on a shared vision of raising awareness of modern day slavery and human trafficking in their local communities. STT Kent runs events that educate people on how to recognise the signs of modern slavery and where to report any suspicions to. They also work in partnership with Kent & Essex Police to help bring freedom and justice to victims trapped in modern slavery.

Overseas, we support the work of IJM through prayer and hosting awareness raising events to help this international NGO confront injustice and violence against the poor across the globe, specifically in rescuing and restoring victims of modern day slavery and in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

MakeLunch

Free school meals make a huge difference to almost 1.2 million children in the UK but when schools are closed so are the kitchens... MakeLunch is a network of churches working to fill the holiday hunger gap.

The families will come for 1hr 45mins where there will be craft and games before sitting down to eat lunch together. Our aim is to MakeLunch one day per week (usually a Monday) of each school holiday. This is a great opportunity to come alongside and get to know people in our local community.
