We are a community of students who love Jesus, love others and seek to follow him with our whole lives.

St Mary Bredin (SMB) is a vibrant evangelical Anglican Church community in the centre of Canterbury. We are committed to God’s call to ‘Be Holy and Be a Blessing’: to live lives that are set apart for God yet reach out beyond our walls with the love of Christ.
Countless students have made SMB their home over the years. It’s a place to find community, grow in discipleship, and get involved in serving through a variety of ministries.
SMB is a community of all ages and stages of life. From thriving children’s and youth ministries to seniors groups, the church provides something for everyone. We’re not shy about getting involved in the community – running lunch clubs, debt relief programmes, and activity days. We also partner with missions abroad and regularly visit our partners JENGA in Uganda.
What do we do for students?
Our prayer for students in Canterbury is that they may know Jesus and the confident hope we have in Him, find deep community and experience the transforming power of God in their own lives – prompting them to reach out to others with the good news of Jesus.
To that end, as a student here, you will be prayed for, invested in and mentored in your walk with Jesus as you live life alongside others.
Each week, we meet on:
- Thursdays at 7.00pm for Student Night: We have a meal together, have fun, pray and delve into teaching.
- Sundays at 5pm for Toasties in the Lounge: Toasties before the evening service at 6.30pm.
When & Where
Thursdays 7.00pm: Student Night
Sundays 10.30am: Morning service
Sundays 6.30pm: Evening service – a more relaxed service popular with students.

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
